A new eatery will cater to cheese and pasta lovers while keeping the calories low.

Called ‘Come and Spaghett It’, it is a pasta takeaway that will be based in Tribe Carlisle, Bitts Park, as one of several casual food spots accompanying the bar in the park.

John Connelly and Jane Hetherington run the business, with Jane having a background in working in a few restaurants and kitchens, and John being a personal trainer full-time.

They have brought their knowledge together to create a takeaway that fitness fanatics and those in need of comfort food can equally enjoy.

John said: “I noticed that there was a lack of healthy meals with high amounts of protein that you could order in Carlisle.”

John referred to takeaway apps like JustEat, Deliveroo and Food Hub as apps where there are no options for fast, healthy, and protein-rich food that those seeking to get and stay fit can incorporate into their fitness meal plans.

John added: “The calories are going to be low enough that they would fit into your calorie allowances, except for our mac and cheese.

“We are doing vegan and gluten-free options as well.”

But how are these rich, luxurious pasta dishes going to be made low-calorie?

Jane explained it is all about making smart choices in ingredients: “Basically, instead of full-fat milk, we’ll be using skimmed milk, reduced fat butter instead of full-fat butter, the same goes for cheese, and we use low-fat Philadelphia cheese for the alfredo.

“The only one we’re not doing it for is the mac and cheese which is just full-on cheese.

“We use spray oils instead of olive oil, it’s surprising how much the calorie content is taken down.”

There will be a soft opening on Tuesday, August 23, where Tribe will also host a pasta quiz, and the official opening in on August 25.

Their menu includes carbonara, chicken alfredo, mac and cheese, and vegan tomato and red pepper.

There is the option of adding chicken to everything for a protein boost.

John added: “We will be doing deliveries, hopefully in September, but people will be able to message us to come and collect, we want to get straight onto a delivery app.”

The new eatery will also have several gluten-free and vegan options to cater to a wider range of tastebuds, and there is also the prospect of fresh pasta weekends in the future to look forward to.
