A BARROW councillor has urged the public to give the police "all the help they need" to catch the perpetrators of an attack in the town centre.

Barrow Borough Councillor Bill McEwan has condemned the assault that took place in broad daylight at the multi-storey car park on Portland Walk on Saturday, August 6.

According to police reports, a man in his 40s sustained superficial cuts to his right arm and right hand, caused by 'a bladed article', in an attack that happened between 5 pm and 7 pm.

Councillor McEwan said: "Anytime is a bad time for something like this to happen, but the fact that it was during the day, there could be people passing by, just going about their business, and even children seeing awful stuff like this - it's definitely not something that we want to be seeing on our streets anywhere in the country, let alone in our hometown.

"That being said, I like to think that this kind of thing doesn't happen too often in Barrow - no more than similar size towns in the rest of the country, if not less.

"However, just one incident like this is more than enough, and I condemn it thoroughly.

"I wish the victim well in their recovery, and I hope that the people of Barrow give the police as much help as they need to catch those responsible."

Police issued a description of two people suspected of grievous bodily harm:

"One suspect is a white male who is around five foot eleven tall and around fifteen years of age.

"He wore white cotton shorts, a grey and white t-shirt, a black bum bag across his chest, a grey and white jacket and white and grey Nike trainers.
"He also had brown short hair.
