DURING the heatwave, a hot kitchen is probably the last place you want to be, but thankfully a takeaway does most of the work for you.

The Met Office has issued an Amber Extreme heat warning with temperatures expected to build through the week.

In Carlisle, it is predicted temperatures will be around 30 degrees celsius, not as hot as it was a few weeks ago, but still affecting us.

Residents in certain areas are being banned from using hosepipes for a long list of activities, including watering gardens and washing cars.

The Met Office has warned there is “very little meaningful rain” on the horizon for parched areas of England.

With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of five heatwave takeaway eateries in the city that stand up to a good home-cooked meal.

  1.  Alexandros

A long-time favourite of Carlisle's food scene, this Greek restaurant has a decent deli that is open during the daytime.

You can buy gyros, stuffed vine leaves, spanakopita, sweet treats, and wash it all down with a proper Greek frappe.
