A WALK will talk place later this month to give people chance to find out more about farming in the Westmorland Dales.

The public event, organised by the Farmer Network, will be hosted by Steve Dunning and his family – third generation farmers at Raisgill Hall near Tebay.

Together with his son Mike, they milk 180 dairy cows and have a flock of 450 breeding sheep. The farm totals 400 acres and there are grazing rights on the Howgill fells.

Mr Dunning said: “We are delighted to welcome everyone to our farm. You can come and learn about dairy farming, watch our cows being milked, and find out how we make silage for winter.”

Carol Moffat, project manager for the Farmer Network, added: “We are very grateful to the Dunning family in hosting a public farm walk. It will also highlight a range of benefits that a mixed farming system brings to the natural environment.”

The free event, at Bonny View House, Raisgill Hall, Tebay, CA10 3UB, on Monday, August 22, from 3pm to 5pm, includes food. To book and help plan catering, call the Farmer Network on 01768 868615, text 07714 187034 or email admin@thefarmernetwork.co.uk.

To avoid disturbing livestock, dogs are not permitted.
