The Carlisle and Cumbria art exhibition has opened in the fratry building at Carlisle Cathedral.
The exhibition, which is in its 53rd edition, celebrates the best of both professional and amateur Cumbrian art with every item shown in the gallery available to buy.
The exhibition committee have been in operation since 1968 with the aim of raising money through the sale profits of the art for local charities and the friends of the cathedral.
Over the years the group have raised over £250,000 for the cathedral and over £50,000 for local charities.
“We are delighted to be up and running again at the Fratry,’’ said Charlie Egerton, chairman of the committee.
‘’This year over 50 artists’ works will be on sale, covering a wide range of subjects. We are proud to be continuing this exhibition which was set up by Molly Mawson fifty-two years ago.’’

The Carlisle and Cumbria art exhibition committee are happy to see the exhibition return to its spiritual home at the fratry building for a second year in a row after a break due to COVID.
The exhibition runs daily from Sunday August 7 to Sunday 21 August and is open from 10am until 4pm.
