The popular 10p swim is back for the summer.

The scheme was introduced a number of years ago and has been a huge summer holiday attraction since.

Allerdale council offers children under 16 the opportunity to enjoy summer swimming for just 10p.

The offer includes swimming pools in Workington, Cockermouth and Wigton Baths.

A new venture this year is a course to increase confidence in open water swimming.

Sessions will take place in Keswick’s Derwent Water as part of a half-day holiday programme of outdoor activities.

The scheme will carry on until school returns.

Councillor Jim Lister, Allerdale Borough Council’s Executive member with responsibility for sports development, said: “I’m delighted to see the return of swimming activities over the summer months. The 10p swims session, particularly, have proved incredibly popular over the years.

"One of the council’s priorities is to improve the health of wellbeing of our communities and the scheme makes this possible for many children across Allerdale.”

The 10p swimming sessions are only available to Allerdale residents. Normal pool adult-to-child supervision ratios apply at the swim sessions and entry may be denied if the maximum number of bathers is reached.
