THE case of a 36-year-old man who has been charged with two counts of attempted robbery has been sent to Carlisle Crown Court.

Barrie Lee appeared briefly before a district judge at the city’s Rickergate court, where the charges he faces were read aloud by the court clerk. Those charges, relating to events which prosecutors say happened on March 29, are:

  • That in Carlisle on that day he attempted to rob a male of an unknown quantity of cash.
  • And that on the same occasion he attempted to rob a second male of an unknown quantity of cash.

The defendant, who was not legally represented, spoke only to confirm his personal details. He was not asked to enter any pleas. District Judge John Temperley sent the case to Carlisle Crown Court for a hearing on August 26.

The hearing is expected to last for 30 minutes and the defendant is likely to be asked to enter his pleas when he is next in court.

In the meantime, Lee was remanded in custody. No address was listed in court records for the defendant but he has formerly lived in Workington.
