A CARLISLE man has been put on the sex offender register after he was convicted of two child sex offences.

Christopher Greensmith, 21, had denied the two allegations he faced: causing a child to look at an image of sexual activity; and engaging in sexual communication with a child, involving intimate images sent via Snapchat.

Both offences were motivated by a desire for sexual gratification, the court heard.

The defendant, of Dalegarth Avenue, Carlisle, was convicted after a trial.

Greensmith will be sentenced on August 15 in a hearing expected to last 30 minutes. In the meantime, background reports will be prepared.

District Judge John Temperley granted the defendant bail on condition that he has no contact with the child who was the victim of the offence.

Prosecutors say that he committed both offences between February 1 and March 19 last year.

The period for which the defendant will be on the Sex Offender Register will be determined by the length and nature of the sentence he is given.
