A MOUNTAIN rescue team and the air ambulance service came to the rescue after a paraglider suffered a heavy landing at the weekend (July 31), causing him to break his leg.

The incident took place on Threlkeld Knotts at around 4pm.

After both the Keswick Mountain Rescue Team and Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) provided pain relief and treatment, the paraglider was then airlifted to the Cumberland Infirmary.

Once the casualty was airlifted, members of the mountain rescue team managed to catch a flight down the hill on the tandem paraglider.
