A man has been found guilty of assault after he held a child upside down by the ankles during a music class.
Sean Haythornthwaite, 38, pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault by beating but was convicted by District Judge John Temperley following a trial at Workington Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Haythornthwaite had lifted the child upside down and held the youngster by both ankles for “several seconds” within a music class in Seascale on February 3.
The defendant, of Laburnum Way, Penrith, was given a 12-month community order and must complete 150 hours of unpaid work.
He was ordered to pay £100 in compensation to his victim and must pay £750 costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
