A WOMAN has been given a 120-day alcohol ban after she admitted drunkenly assaulting three police officers during a night out in Carlisle.

Yvette Hodgkinson, 39, admitted the three offences which happened after door staff at the city's Truth bar called the police at 2am on April 30 following reports that she was laying on the floor 'screaming and shouting.'

At the city's Rickergate court, prosecutor Pam Ward outlined how the defendant's bad behaviour at the Englishgate Plaza bar prompted staff to call the police in the hope of making her leave.

“The door staff said they just wanted her to leave,” said Mrs Ward. “When the police told her to leave, she became abusive.

"The police believed that she was clearly under the influence of alcohol, slurring her speech, and she couldn’t stand up.”

Hodgkinson, of Lansdowne Close, Stanwix, Carlisle, continued to use abusive language towards the police officers and then lunged towards one of them, causing her to stumble backwards.

She then took a swing at another of the officers, narrowly missing her face.

As she was being escorted to a police van the defendant kicked backwards, connecting with the left shin of one of the officers.

Even when she was in custody, said Mrs Ward, she continued to be verbally abusive and aggressive, again kicking out, her foot connecting with another officer’s leg.

She later admitted the assaults but said she had intended to assault the officers and was very sorry for the way she had behaved.

Mrs Ward continued: “She said that she is not a violent person but that she had been having trouble with her mental health since the birth of her child.”

None of officers suffered any permanent injury and the only effect was soreness and pain.

Chris Toms, defending, said the defendant has been struggling to deal with very difficult personal issues and had used alcohol in a misguided attempt to cope with this.

Magistrates imposed a community order which includes various condition, including a 120 electronically monitored alcohol abstinence order. She must also complete up to 20 days of activity with the Probation Service.

The defendant must pay £85 costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
