Four Workington men have risen to a fell top challenge to support a charity close to their hearts.

Kieran Ritchie, Will Ritchie, Ryan Little and Michael Forster are delighted to have raised £3,700 - vital funds for the west Cumbrian charity Bee Unique, which supports families with autistic children.

The men decided to complete the Bob Graham Round route - a 66-mile, 27,000ft circuit of 42 of the highest peaks in the English Lake District - over three days.

They hiked across the fells, carrying all their camping gear, food and water.

Kieran said: "What a slog! I had around 15kg of supplies on my back of water food and other supplies.

"On the first day we did 28 miles, followed by 22 miles the second day and on day three we covered around 24 miles, with the walk starting and finishing in Keswick.

"I'm chuffed to have finished the Bob Graham Round with four great lads.

"We’ve smashed our target of £2,000 and hope that people will keep donating and we can get to £4,000 for this charity that means a lot to us."

Bee Unique is the vision of Nadia Shaw and Dave Parsons, of Flimby - parents and carers to two non verbal boys, both diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition with Associated Learning Difficulties.

Nadia said: "We are deeply appreciative of all our fundraisers. It's them that allow us to continue to do what we do."

The charity held its second SEN Event at Mayfield School last Saturday. "Despite the rain it didn't dampen anyone's spirits, it was a great family fun day for all families to enjoy in a relaxed comfortable environment," said Dave.
