TWO Carlisle men who face multiple allegations of violence and weapon carrying have formally entered not guilty pleas.

Ryan Mark O’Neil,41, of Henderson Road, Currock, and Ricky O’Neil, 33, of Rydal Place, appeared before the city’s crown court via a video link and entered not guilty pleas to all of the charges they face.

Those charges relate to events which prosecutors say happened in June. Ricky O’Neil entered not guilty pleas to the following charges:

  • That on June 14 he attempted to suffocate a female.
  • That he made a threat to kill the same woman, intending her to believe this threat would be carried out.
  • And that he subjected the same woman to an assault by beating.

The same defendant also faces charges arising out of alleged events on June 18, and those charges are:

  • That he assaulted a police officer.
  • That he assaulted a man causing him actual bodily harm.
  • And that he illegally possessed a knife in Atkinson Crescent, Harraby, Carlisle.

Ryan Mark O’Neil is also accused of an actual bodily harm assault on the same man allegedly attacked by Ricky O’Neil on June 18.  He is additionally charged with assaulting a police officer, and illegally carrying a knife in Atkinson Crescent.

Recorder Tony Hawks adjourned the case until October 17. In the meantime, both defendants were remanded in custody.
