A historic Grade-II city centre hotel has been listed for sale with an asking price of £5.5million.

The Crown and Mitre, located on English Street, is offering 91 en-suite guest bedrooms, six function suites with additional parking space.

The traditional hotel includes beautiful original features including a real log fire and elegant sweeping stair case.

The building is being listed by Christie & Co. The listing states that as of the year ending January 2020, revenue for the premises stood at £2.43m.

According to the hotel's website, the building dates back to 1905.

"The Crown and Mitre Hotel was built in 1905 on the site of the original Crown and Mitre coffee house which had a long and colorful history dating back to before the Jacobite Rebellion," it says.

"The landlord of the day supported Bonnie Prince Charlie and he gave shelter to the rebels once they entered the city following the Jacobite siege of 1745.

"By the end of the 18th century the Crown and Mitre coffee house had become the main coaching inn of the city, a stopping place for both mail and stage coaches on their way to London, Glasgow and Edinburgh."

The original inn was then demolished in 1902 to make way for the existing hotel, which took three years to build.

The site has been home to many important faces and figures during its tenure, one of which included United States President Woodrow Wilson.
