WHEN it comes to bolstering body image and making people feel good about themselves, one of the best to do it in Carlisle is a business that offers fresh trims and fresh ink.

The Gentry, barber and tattoo lounge situated on Junction Street, has been creating a buzz around town and delighting patrons for the past 15 years.

Jade Fisher and her mum took over the shop originally and over the past four years, Jade's husband Wayne, took over the upstairs to start needling his works of art.

What catches your attention is the shops stunning aesthetic, including the recent addition of an eye-catching motorbike front of the house, the decor leaves you feeling like you've stepped back in time into a Western parlour.

"It was my mum's idea to open up the shop. She talked us into at the time and it's thrived ever since," Jade said.

"We live next door as well, so we've always got the kids running about - it's very much a family business. It's great though, I can roll out of bed and start cutting hair," she said.

For a barbers to be fully booked a month in advance, all year round, and the tattoo parlour to be booked out until next Summer, the business is certainly doing something right.

"It just keeps rolling on. Being from the city, where everyone knows us as Jade & Wayne from the Gentry, it definitely works.

"People choosing to come to us regularly is amazing really because there's so many talented artists and barbers out there," she said.

Being situated slightly outside the city centre, Jade summarised as a benefit as it saves customers having to deal with the hassle of city centre parking.

"All the time, when people are upstairs getting tattooed, they always come down asking if we can squeeze them in for a cut. I've always found the two businesses have always worked well together, you could get your haircut in the same chair you get a tattoo in, it's great.

"We're content with who we are and what we're doing, we're working hard as a team and individually but our main goal is feeling content and happy, which we are at the moment, so we'll work hard whilst we can," she said.
