THE BBC has released a fascinating trove of archive footage showing scenes from years gone by.
We've looked through the footage and found some amazing clips showing famous scenes in and around Carlisle.
- One of the clips shows The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh on a royal visit to Carlisle in 1958, at the end of their holiday in Balmoral.
- Another shows people involved with an Outward Bound Trust School in what was then Cumberland, partaking in outdoor activities.
- One scene is from a documentary titled Teaching Today - Discovering History. School children can be seen investigating the history of The Ballad of Kinmont Willie Armstrong and Carlisle Castle.
- Another fascinating news report from 1972 shows a woman from Carlisle who keeps a fox as a pet in her council house. The council at the time wouldn't allow this and wanted her to give the fox up.
- We can also see a news clip from Look: North titled Choosing a Primary School in Cumbria, from 1982.
The BBC said: "Parents of children due to start primary school in Cumbria are being allowed to visit different schools before they choose which one to apply to."
