A Workington man who had denied an allegation of using threatening behaviour has been convicted of the offence.

Robert Tinkler, 43, who elected to have his case dealt with at a magistrates court, committed the offence on April 12, 2020, in Workington, causing people who were at the scene to fear for their personal safety.

After hearing the evidence at Carlisle's Rickergate court, District Judge John Temperley imposed a 16-week jail sentence but suspended this for a year.

Giving his reasons for the sentence, the judge said that Tinkler, of Jackson Road, Workington, was responsible for an “invasion of people’s home while he was under the influence of drugs.

But the judge said he had suspended the jail term because the offending happened a long time ago and the threats of violence were “out of character” given the defendant’s life over the last 20 years and nothing had happened since.

Tinkler was also fined £300, and told to pay £300 prosecution costs and a £128 victim surcharge. His £728 debt to the court will be repaid at a rate of £100 per month.
