PLANS for a drive-thru Starbucks in Carlisle have been given the greenlight by Carlisle City Council.

The drive-thru coffee shop will be built at Kingstown Broadway on the site of the former Suzuki Showroom.

Carlisle City Council’s planning department granted approval to the plans on June 30.

The agent has said that the plans have the potential to create up to 30 jobs at the site, which is currently vacant.

They said: “In the UK, Starbucks employs around 7,000 people across 1,000 stores.

“Starbucks is a socially responsible brand at all stages of its business, from coffee production to stores. Starbucks is committed to ensuring that 99 per cent of coffee purchased is ethically sourced and is seeking to donate 100 million coffee trees to coffee farmers, with 40 million already distributed.”

Outdoor seating is included in the plans and vehicle access will be the existing point from Kingstown Broadway.

The coffee shop will be built on the northeast corner of the site and the drive thru will be able to accommodate around 10 cars, running clockwise to windows on the east side.

It is hoped that the approved plans will be environmentally friendly.
