THERE was a serious crash involving two heavy good vehicles on the M6 at Todhills (July 14). 

Subsequently, one lorry caught fire. 

The M6 Northbound is closed between J44 (Carlisle North) and J45 (Gretna) leaving traffic at a standstill and traffic is also being temporary held on the southbound side.

Emergency services are in attendance, of which include the fire service. 

The incident was reported by Cumbria Road Watch at 6:54pm. 

A spokesperson from Cumbria Road Watch said: "Reports suggest that the northbound carriageway could be closed for some time.

"Lengthy queues reported on the approach. 

UPDATE at 7:25pm: Northbound diversion via A7 and A6071 through Longtown.

 

 

UPDATE 8:55pm: Northbound will remain closed overnight for recovery and carriageway repairs.
