COUNCILLORS will be asked whether they support plans to change the age range of a Copeland school so they can accept younger students.

Cumbria County Council’s Local Committee for Copeland is set to meet in Cleator Moor next week.

And members of the committee will be asked to comment on a proposed change of age range at St Bees Village Primary School.

The proposal, which is in consultation is to accept younger students.

Students are currently accepted from four to 11 but school leaders hope to accept students from two to eleven.

The report set to be discussed by councillors on Wednesday explains that “St Bees Pre-school is a thriving Governor-led nursery which the head and school governors now want to integrate more fully into the primary school.

“The extension of age range will allow the school to more effectively share its resources with the nursery without the children in the nursery noticing any changes to their day-to-day routine.”

St Bees, which is rated ‘good’ by Ofsted, is a community school so it is the responsibility of Cumbria County Council’s leadership to decide whether to give notice that the age range will be changed.
