MARATHON man has been giving an insight to how he gets through his epic challenge - saying the last 172 days 'doesnt seem that much'.

Gary McKee, from Cleator Moor, is running 365 marathons in 365 days for charities Hospice at Home West Cumbria and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Speaking for his Whitehaven News diary, Gary said:"On to week 28 and a bit of a change from my usual routine. I’m working morning shift this week which means I’ll run when I get home from work at about 3pm.

"The positives are I’ll get to have a different breakfast from jam on toast and two cups of coffee to whatever I want.

"I might also see different people out on the cycle path too.

"I’ve had lots of different runners over the last week and even had my GP run with me which was great.

"It’s funny how when I look at how many days I’ve done (193) and how many I’ve got left (172) it doesn’t seem that much.

"I listened to a podcast last night when I was in the sauna about a guy called Dave Proctor who is going to break the record on the fastest time to run across Canada.

"The record stands at 72 days and he is going to complete it in 67 as he’s running around 65 miles a day.

"He talked about people not being able to understand how he can get up and run every day and I can totally relate to what he was saying. It becomes a practice and something that you get used to.

"I never see what I do as daily grind more of a choice and an opportunity to help people who are ill. I also see it as an opportunity for people to join me and get themselves a bit fitter.

"I’d like to say a big thanks to all the people who are supporting me especially with the change in running times.

"And if anyone wants to join me, please check my Facebook page for details of what time I’m setting off."
