A MOTORIST from Carlisle who knocked over a pedestrian who was trying to walk across the city’s London Road has been convicted of careless driving.
Shaun Ashley Green, 39, of Tarn Side, had denied any wrongdoing. But he was convicted after a three-hour trial at the city’s Rickergate Magistrates’ Court.
The charged stated that the defendant drove a Nissan Qashqai from Highwood Crescent on to London Road on January 7 without due care and attention.
As a result, his car struck and knocked over a pedestrian who at the time had been attempting to cross the road, the court heard.
Magistrates imposed a £120 fine, with £300 costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
Green's licence was endorsed with five points. In court, the defendant was represented by defence barrister Emmanuel Coniah.
Magistrates declined to award any compensation to the victim, noting that this was being handled by insurers with a civil claim.
