A drunk man became aggressive in the street and gave police the middle finger after attending an engagement party.

Police were called to deal with the incident on Everest Mount in Workington at 11.15pm on June 18.

Daniel Tyer, 33, was “being aggressive” and “waving his arms around”, Workington Magistrates’ Court was told.

Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said police asked Tyer to come down on a number of occasions, but he refused to do so, and showed officers the middle finger.

He was drunk and unsteady on his feet, the court was told. He was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

Tyer, who was unrepresented, told magistrates: “I don’t drink. I went to an engagement party.

“It’s what’s happened. I’m guilty.”

The defendant, of Bancroft Avenue, Seaton, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly.

Passing sentence, lead magistrate, Christopher Droet, said: “You caused a bit of a fuss here, didn’t you?”

Tyer was fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £48 victim surcharge.
