RACE for Life is a Cancer Research UK fundraiser event. Races take place across the UK including Carlisle and thousands gather to raise money for the cause.
Race for Life started 28 years ago as a women-only event. The first event was held in Battersea, in 1994. Since that point, Race for Life has grown into a series of hundreds of events across the country, raising nearly £900 million towards beating cancer over the last quarter of a century.
In 2019, for the first time, the Race for Life opened its doors to men to participate too, making it a truly inclusive event, giving people the chance to come together with their family and friends, and join the movement to help beat cancer.
The Carlisle event has taken place in Bitts Park and the Sheepmount over the years. Notably in 2016, 1,750 people raised over £200k in the Carlisle race making it one of the best years of the race. The popularity of the event only continues to grow.
