A new charity is set to open in an Eden town.

A branch of Carlisle-based charity shop Restore, the new shop will open in Penrith this month.

The new shop will open in a unit at Penrith’s New Squares area, which is near Sainsbury’s.

Brian Gray, who is chairman of the charity’s trustees, explained the charity and what they stand for: “Restore is a charity shop with a difference.

“We seek to restore communities; we’re serving people who have very small budgets and they can get clothing from our shops.

“We are mainly located in large housing areas in Carlisle and we put the money back into the community.

“We own charity shops and use volunteers extensively.

“We also have a community shed and allotment which helps people particularly with mental health issues.

“This new shop would be our first shop outside of Carlisle.

“We think Penrith is a good place to be and we want to work with the local churches in Penrith.

“We work with any church as we have a Christian ethos, but we are not linked to any one church.

The new shop in Penrith will employ Beth Honey, Restore’s chaplain and pioneer minister, and a team of volunteers is currently being sought for when the new shop opens.

Restore has four shops in Carlisle, each one offering a wide range of pre-owned goods and which seeks to create a community around it where people feel welcomed, valued, and supported.
