A woman is raising money to pay for her injured dog’s vet bills after it lost its leg.

Ricci Ewart, of Carlisle, said last month her greyhound, Belle, was running around the garden when she suddenly let out a ‘blood-curdling’ scream.

She had somehow broken her leg and was clearly in a lot of pain.

Unfortunately, due to the rising cost of living and a change in her financial situation, she was unable to pay up-front for the treatment.

She explained that she was hopeful that a vet would agree to some sort of payment plan, but this was not the case, she said.

As a result, she was left to just give her dog paracetamol throughout the night.

She said: “We called around all the local vets and none of them would help us without paying up-front.

“Thankfully, the RSPCA stepped in and helped us in our hour of need.

“Belle needed to have her leg amputated and the RSPCA helped me to pay for this and her ongoing treatment.”

News and Star:

Ricci explained that the RSPCA has a clinic in Carlisle.

They asked her to bring Belle down to see them.

The clinic works alongside Craig Robinson vets, she said, and they got her in there and funded it as they get subsidised.

The RSPCA is allowing Ricci to pay the bill of without having to pay it all up-front.

“Without them, Belle would have had to be put to sleep.”

She set up the fundraising page to pay the RSPCA back for Belle’s treatment and hopefully make an extra donation to them so that they can continue with their work.

She added: “I will be forever grateful to them for saving Belle’s life.”
