A thug has been jailed after kicking his victim’s head in a “drink fuelled” and “vicious attack”.

Kevin Jolly, 38, attacked the man outside Moorclose Shops at Newlands Lane in Workington on May 18.

Jolly admitted assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm, when he appeared at Workington Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The court heard it was an “unprovoked” and “sustained vicious attack” with kicks to head, “fuelled by drink” in a public place where others had tried to intervene.

Jolly’s victim suffered “a large laceration”, bloodshot eyes and possible loss of consciousness.

Magistrates jailed the defendant, of Grasmere Avenue, Workington, for 12 months.

He must pay £200 in compensation to his victim and a £156 surcharge on his release from prison.
