A SNAPCHAT sex pest is awaiting sentence after sending unwanted and sexually explicit messages to two teenagers on the social media app when on holiday in Ayrshire.

Joshua Watson, 24, was told he will have to register as a sex offender after texting the girls using Snapchat at Craig Tara Caravan Park on May 24.

Watson pleaded guilty to two charges of sending messages containing sexual remarks with the purposes of obtaining gratification or of humiliating, distressing or alarming the victims.

Both offences were committed while Watson was the subject of a bail order imposed at North and West Cumbria Magistrates Court.

Not guilty pleas to two other accusations were accepted by prosecutors – though Watson is also awaiting the outcome of separate criminal matters in Cumbria in addition to the Ayr case.

Ayr Sheriff Court was told last week that Watson, of Beaumont Road, Carlisle, engaged in conversation with the two complainers, who were both aged 17, on Snapchat using a “quick add” function.

The procurator fiscal depute told the June 16 hearing: “The accused sent the witness a message asking for sex.

“On the same time and date he sent a message saying “wanna f***?

“The witness blocked the accused. At around 8.30pm May 26 witnesses contacted police.

"The accused was arrested and taken to Saltcoats police office.

“He was cautioned and charged and made no reply.”

Watson’s solicitor told the court his client suffered from an unstable personality disorder – but said he would reserve further comment until his client’s sentencing hearing.

Sentence was deferred for background reports and to await the outcome of a case due to call before Carlisle Crown Court.

Sheriff Shirley Foran told Watson: “In view of the nature of the charges you will now be subject to notification requirements under the Sex Offences Act. You are obliged to attend a police office within three days. This counts as the first day.

“If you fail to do that, this can give rise to prosecution, so get it done.

“The exact notification requirement will be made known to you at the time of your full disposal.”

Bail was continued and will return to court at a later date.
