TRIBUTES have been paid to John Stobart son of trucking legend Eddie Stobart who has sadly passed away.

John Stobart, son of Eddie and Nora, husband of Christine, father of David, Joanne and Sarah, grandfather of Oliver will be sorely missed by his community.

His wife, Christine, spoke of his character and the life he led: “He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and proud of all his family."

“He was a stockman and breeder of mules and sheep and was very conscientious, everything just had to be right for him.”

Christine described him as a countryman who developed a keen interest in farming from a very young age.

When he was in school he would work on a farm, and then when he left school he became a farmer full time.

Christine added: “He helped other farmers in the area.”

He built, owned and lived on Howbeck Lodge, his farm, and raised his children there, teaching them how to farm, which saw Sarah become a lecturer in agriculture.

He was on the Hesket Newmarket Show committee as well, as Christine added: “He always drove the sheep through the village.

“They all came through the village.

“He was also master of fox hounds for 24 years.”

A funeral service for the late John Stobart is to be held at St Kentigern’s Church in Caldbeck on Friday, June 24, at 10:30 am, followed by an interment.
