Students donned their finest threads to celebrate the end of school – by order of the Peaky Blinders.

The West Lakes Academy Year 11 Prom was held on Friday evening at The Seacote Hotel in St Bees with 165 guests.

Both staff and students attended the Peaky Blinders-themed event to celebrate the end of year 11.

A disco was provided by Ian’s Mobile Disco and photographs were taken throughout the night by sixth form student, Mikayla Rigg.

A special awards ceremony was held during the evening, where the students were awarded for special talents and achievements.

Kaiden Block was named ‘Prom King’ and Ava-Jane Irving was ‘Prom Queen’. The ‘Best Dressed’ award went to Sophie Atkinson and Cian Sharpe.

Sue Wightman, head of Year 11, said: “The evening was truly amazing from beginning to end.

“It has been two years since we have been able to organise a prom for year 11. The evening began with hundreds of students past and present, parents, staff and the general public turning up at the academy to see the students off.

“Students arrived in style by various sporty cars.

“The students all looked beautiful and to see them looking all grown up was very emotional, as the last two years have been a journey with the students dealing with Covid.

“The atmosphere was electric and the students had a wonderful time dancing and singing the night away, and at one point they were all on the dance floor.

“The venue, photographer, DJ and the Prom Committee (especially Imogen Bear and her Mum who helped decorate the venue along with other year 11 students) all did an outstanding job. A fabulous night was had by all.’’
