THOUSANDS have been left without power in Lakes towns and villages due to a substation fire in the area.

Issues were first reported at 9.11am this morning, with Electricity North West currently working with fire crews to try and get the fire under control as well as restore power.

It has been reported that shops in Keswick have had to close due to the lack of power.

In a statement Electricity North West said: "This incident has been caused by a substation fire.

"We are currently working alongside the fire brigade to isolate supplies, get the fire under control restore supplies to effected customer as soon as possible.

 

 

"Once we can assess the substation, we will have a better idea of the damage caused.

"We will provide further updates on our social media pages and on this website."

 

 

Postcodes in surrounding villages such as Mungrisedale and Glenridding are also said to have been affected.

Electricity Northwest hope to have power restored by 2pm this afternoon.
