TWO thrill-seeking brothers have been running Keswick Extreme for the past nine years.

The activity hub offers something for every outdoor enthusiast including; river tubing, ghyll scrambling, abseiling, mine climbing, raft building and mountaineering.

Both Sean and Jason O'Rourke have always had a love for all things adventure, making it the perfect job for the duo.

Jason, who brings 35 years of industry experience to the rivers and waterfalls of Keswick, said: "There's no money in the outdoor industry it's just more of a lifestyle choice.

"Last year was our busiest year on record with people being unable to leave the country and resorting to staycations, and this year, we've had a slow start to the season but the weather's not been great as well as people being cautious with current price rises but, we've just seen schools coming back this year which is great," he said.

It's not an easy shift running an outdoor adventure hub however.

"It's a lot of long hours, we're normally doing about 90-100 hours a week, but the good side of it is when we're not manic in the winter, we can take as much time off to do what we love which is skiing and mountaineering," he said.

The group caters to business outings, school trips as well as family and friend group outings.

"You see a different perception of people's personalities when they're out with us," Jason said.

Whilst the business is feeling the pinch from the rising cost of living, they've committed to keeping the prices the same.

"We haven't put our prices up because we want to remain affordable for families and groups but obviously it's something we may have to look at next year if costs keep rising," he said.

The boys have plans for the future of potentially buying land, so they can offer accommodation as well as their outings - making up for full stays of exhilarating fun.

"We are short-staffed at the moment and finding top qualified staff has been difficult, we are looking for more qualified members to join our freelance team," he said.
