A WEST Cumbrian man who has a history of defying court orders has been jailed for using threatening behaviour in a pharmacy.

Maryport man Damian Spencer Bromley, 38, committed the offence on June 2 at Maryport, Carlisle’s Rickergate court heard. He pleaded guilty.

The charge states that he used “threatening, abusive and insulting” words or behaviour that caused a woman harassment, alarm or distress.

After hearing about the offence, magistrates imposed a 12-week jail sentence, saying the offence was serious because Bromley had been released from custody a short time earlier and at the time was under the influence of alcohol.

“Children and the public were present in the pharmacy also,” said magistrates. Mention was also made of the defendant's previous offending and his history of not complying with court orders.

They also imposed a further six weeks jail in default because the defendant, represented in court by defence lawyer Steven Marsh, had failed to pay a fine of £2,519 which was imposed in July, 2019.

Court records do not specify what offence the fine was imposed for. When released, the defendant, of George Terrace, Netherton, Maryport, will be liable to pay a £128 victim surcharge.

The pharmacy at which the defendant committed his latest offence was not named on the court record.
