Army cadets played their part in the Jubilee celebrations last night.
Cumbrian cadets attended the beacon lighting ceremonies at Carlisle Castle and Murton Pike in Eden.
Thousands of these beacons were lit across the country, as well as the crown dependencies – like the Isle of Man – and overseas territories – like Bermuda.
In Carlisle last night, the cadets escorted the Mayor of Carlisle, Councillor Mike Mitchelson, as he carried the torch to light the beacon in the front of the castle.
The cast was floodlit purple and a musical from Rocket Dance School took place.
Cadets in Penrith marched from Murton to meet villagers from Hilton at the base of Murton Pike.
Residents from both of these villages joined in the procession and also kindly laid on a barbecue for everyone, providing plenty of food and cakes.
The cadets then proceeded to walk up Murton Pike and once at the top the cadets sang the national anthem and lit the beacon.
Following the lighting of the beacon, a fireworks display further marked the occasion. Cadets and volunteers from Penrith were joined at the top by locals from both villagers and people from all over the local area.
