JOB opportunities for more than 100 people have been created at a major new housing development - where 30 per cent of properties will be affordable homes.
Construction recently commenced at Eamont Chase, an 82-home development on land off Carleton Avenue in the village of Carleton, near Penrith.
The Genesis Homes project will see a range of two to five bedroom houses and bungalows constructed to address a desperate need for more housing in the Eden Valley.

Managing director Nicky Gordon said: “The Genesis Homes team is very excited to be bringing the Eamont Chase development to the Eden Valley and with it comes a lot of benefits to the community.
“Among them is the creation of more than 100 employment posts and we’re particularly proud to be in a position where we can create work for so many people living and working in the local area.”
The creation of so many jobs is just one of the many benefits from the housing development, with a total of 24 affordable homes for people with links to the local area being made available.
The community is also set to benefit from a significant sum of money which will be distributed to Cumbria County Council through the Government’s New Homes Bonus Scheme. The council will also receive a £316,000 contribution from Genesis Homes towards education as part of the development.
It is also estimated there will be a benefit of £12m to the local economy through wages and due to an increase in expenditure at local shops and services during and after the construction process.
The Eamont Chase development will provide extensive green space for residents with 5,000 square metres of amenity space to be created in addition to other ecological features such as a wildflower grass area, trees and shrubs to encourage wildlife to flourish.
Walking and cycling will be encouraged throughout the development through the creation of a footpath network surrounded by attractive green spaces.
