The man suffered a heart attack whilst on the summit of Helvellyn and had to be stretchered to safety by the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team and the Coastguard helicopter.

A spokesperson from the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team gave us an update on his condition. They said: "The gentleman is recovering well he has had surgery and all went well.
"He had a heart attack and fortunately was rescued off the fell by ourselves and the coastguard helicopter to obtain the medical help needed at hospital. "
A long technical rescue but always worthwhile for the team with the gentleman making a good recovery."
