A woman who died in a crash this week has been formally identified.

The crash happened on the A66 near Warcop, to which police officers were called at 12:13 pm on Monday, May 23.

The crash involved a Volkswagen Gold, Volkswagen T Cross and a HGV, police say.

Christine Gooding, 61, of Tyne and Wear, a passenger in the Golf, sadly died as a result of the collision.

Two people were airlifted to hospital, the driver of the Golf, a man in his 50s, is described as in a critical condition and the driver of the T Cross, a woman in her 50s, is described as in a stable condition. 

Two further people suffered minor injuries.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
