A SPECIALIST team has been brought in from outside Cumbria to help in investigations surrounding what caused a fatal housefire in Distington on Sunday morning. 

The fire, which killed a father and daughter in the early hours of  May 22 has left the community of West Cumbria in mourning. 

Paul “Archie” Scott, 58, and Mia Carole Scott ,14 died following the fatal fire -formal ID has yet to take place.

Cumbria Police and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service are now running a joint investigation relating to the cause of the fire, on behalf of the coroner.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A specialist 'Urban Search and Rescue Team' from Lancashire have been brought in to assist Cumbria FRS to make the structure at the property stable, so that crews can begin a full investigation into what caused the blaze.

A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “Following the house fire in Distington, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service’s Urban Search and Rescue team are currently shoring an internal wall within the property to support the building structure and making it stable for Cumbria Fire and  Rescue Service’s Fire Investigation team to begin a full Fire Investigation.”
