This year is a very special time for the royal family and Britain as a whole.

In the coming weeks Her Majesty The Queen will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee which will mark 70 years of her reign.

The Queen first ascended to the throne in 1952 and has overseen the country ever since.

Over the years we have come together to mark the important dates in her royal reign. Most recently was the Diamond Jubilee back in 2012, other key dates included the Queen's Silver Jubilee and Golden Jubilee.

Here at the News & Star we've compiled together some photos of how members of our community have celebrated the Queen's Jubilees over the years.

You may see some pictures that bring back fond memories of good times in your community celebrating the royal family.

Some of the photographs show people in the area hosting street parties and events to mark the occassions.

People came together, taking over entire roads to celebrate two of the Jubilees back in 1977 and 2002.

It is fascinating to see the strong community spirit of the Cumbrian people at these important times.

The Queen also has something of a strong connection to west Cumbria back in 2008 Her Majesty visited Whitehaven

She greeted onlookers on the harbourside and was given a tour of The Beacon Museum.

The Queen has also visited the area a number of times over the years including paying a visit to the Sellafield Nuclear Power Station.

How do you plan on spending this Platinum Jubilee bank holiday event? Will you be spending time with your family and friends and throwing a party?

The Platinum Jubilee Central Weekend will take place from June 2 until June 5 this year.
