A YOUNG Carlisle man has admitted harassing a woman and assaulting a police officer.

Joseph Jack Buckley, 25, committed the assault offence on Boxing Day last year, magistrates sitting at the city’s Rickergate court heard. He had previously denied the allegation but changed his plea to guilty.

He admitted the harassment offence, commited against a woman between December 18 and 22 last year, at an earlier hearing.

Court papers say this offence involved Buckley, of Brisco Meadows, Carlisle, calling the woman and leaving “numerous voicemails”, part of behaviour that he ought to have known amounted to harassment.

Magistrates imposed a community order, which includes a 90-day alcohol abstinence requirement, which will be electronically monitored.

He must also attend a “Building Better Relationships” programme and participate in up to 30 days of work with the Probation Service as required and 15 rehabilitation activity days.

The defendant, who was legally represented, must pay £400 prosecution costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
