POPULAR Facebook group 'Rate your plate West Cumbria' shared their favourite afternoon tea locations in the area.

One user asked 'Best place for afternoon tea?' and many shared their opinion on where they have previously visited and enjoyed.

Some of the locations included:

Melbreak Hotel:

One of the replies suggested here saying 'We went to Melbreak last week, was beautiful'.

The Melbreak invites guests to enjoy dainty finger sandwiches, freshly-baked plain and fruit scones with rich clotted cream and jam, savoury items and sweet mouthfuls of delicious homemade cakes, pastries and mini desserts.

Bassenthwaite Lake Station:

This location received a few recomenndations, one user said 'Bassenthwaite Railway, really nice food and absolutely fantastic surroundings and atmosphere.'

You can eat aboard the Orient Express at the station and enjoy finger sandwiches, savourty foods including pulled beef brioche slider with pickle and mini prawn & smoked salmon cocktail. Sweet treats on the menu include Bassenthwaite malted tea bread and plenty more.

Woodlands Tea Room:

This is another recommendation which was mentioned several times. One user said that the food is 'all home made, even the bread'.

Here you can enjoy their sandwiches, cumberland sausage rolls, pork pies with Hawkshead apple & pear chutney, quiche, cream cakes, sponge cakes, traybakes, scones and more. You even have the option to add prosecco for an extra treat.

Wellington Farm Cafe:

The recommendation for this cafe said 'gorgeous afternoon tea with stunning views'.

This fternoon tea includes finger sandwhcihes, homemade sausage rolls, mini tartlets, macarons, mini cheesecakes, traybakes, shortbread biscuit and of course scones with all the trimmings.

Mr Wilson Tea Room:

One user commented 'have a look at Mr Wilson in workington...Fab.'

This tea room offers a multitude of afternoon teas including gentlemens afternoon tea, royal afternoon tea, 'sweet nothings' afteroon tea and gluten free options.

However, they also offer takeaway teas. There are specialised boxes for the jubilee including royal afternoon tea, 'Elizabeth' afternoon teas and even one that is themed around a rations box.

The Peddler:

One user had a whole lot of praise saying 'I've done the lot pedler Whitehaven knocks the socks off the lot'.

The menu for the afternoon tea includes some classic such as scones, sausage rolls and scotch eggs but also modern additions including crispy chicken fillet and garlic mayo. There are also lemon posset tarts and brownies for your sweet tooth.

They are also holding a Peddler celebration tea, held June 2nd to June 5th for the Jubilee.
