PLANS have been submitted to the city council to build a new apartment block in Carlisle.

Carlisle City Council has received the application for planning permission from CP Homes Cumbria.

They hope to build a single three storey apartment block, which would accommodate 10 flats.

The application has been submitted in outline, which means that some matters will be revealed at a later date and some aspects of the development could change.

An outline planning application gives councillors an indication of what developers hope to build before they submit a more detailed and realistic reserved matters application.

If plans are given the greenlight, CP Homes would build the block of flats on land adjacent to Irving’s Coach Depot on Jesmond Street.

Sandstone flags would be laid to form paths and patios around the development and the vehicular areas will be either tarmac or tegular type setts.

Soft landscaping is proposed as part of the development, in supporting statements, the agent said: “The planting scheme is intended to soften the proposed building to create an attractive low maintenance garden with year-round colour interest, ecological value and shelter.

“Mixed planting/shrubbery areas will be planted between early November and the end of January when the ground is free from frost and snow, when there is no drought and in the absence of waterlogged ground.”

New trees and shrubs will also be planted as part of the works.

Addressing highways matters in their planning statement, CP Homes said: “Whilst this is an outline application, the indicative site layout plan shows that there will be sufficient off street parking to serve 10 apartments, with associated visitor parking.

“Given that the site is within the urban area that is well-related to the city centre and with good public transport links, this level of parking is considered to be appropriate and compliant with the Cumbria Design Guide.”
