Captain Conor Tinnion has agreed to stay with Workington Reds for another season.

And he has been joined in committing to the club for the 2022/23 campaign by striker Scott Allison and defender Dan Wordsworth.

The popular trio have signed up for next season under returning boss Danny Grainger.

The news comes as a double boost for the Borough Park club after a number of departures in recent days.

Tinnion's deal for next season extends a 12-year spell in west Cumbria for the former Carlisle United youth player.

The 31-year-old said: "I’m really happy to have re-signed for next year.

"It was obviously a very disappointing end to the season but I am really excited to have the manager back and looking forward to getting started next season.

“We will be looking to pick up where we left off with Danny and and go one more step closer to our aim.”

Speaking on the club website, Grainger added: I’m over the moon to have Conor here for another season.

"He was chosen as captain for a reason in my first spell and I’m sure he will continue to show the drive, determination and set the standards that we expect to have a successful season.”

Tinnion's deal was followed later on Wednesday by news that Allison was staying at the club.

The frontman described it as a "no-brainer", adding: "The club stuck by me last season through all the injuries and I feel I owe them for that.

"I feel that leaving [the club] before gaining promotion out of this league just isn't an option."

Grainger described Allison as "a big player" for Reds and said he was looking forward to seeing the experienced forward hit the goal trail next season.

It has also been confirmed that Wordsworth is also on board for the new campaign.

The long-serving centre-half said: "As soon as I heard Danny was back, I knew I wanted to sign for another season."

Grainger said Wordsworth's leadership qualities and will to win were exactly what the club needed.

The deals come as Grainger continues the process of rebuilding the squad that missed out on promotion from NPL West under Chris Willcock in 2021/22.

Reds also last night announced that defender Kyle Harrison was leaving the club.

The club said the player has chosen to move to a club closer to home.

He became the latest member of last season's squad to move on after Brad Carroll, Scott Fenwick, Nico Evangelinos and Brad Hubbold.
