A FORTY-four-year-old west Cumbrian man has admitted making a string of nuisance calls, including a hoax 999 call to the fire service.

Steven James Gilbertson, of Main Street, Cleator, had previously denied the allegations, all which were allegedly committed on dates in August and September of this year. But during a hearing at Workington Magistrates' Court he changed his pleas to guilty, admitting the following offences.

* Sending a false message on August 28 in Whitehaven.

* Sending a false message on September 6 at Cleator.

* Sending a false message on September 7, also at Cleator.

* Giving a false alarm of fire to a 999 call handler on September 6, again at Cleator.

* Sending a false message on August 22.

The sentencing was adjourned until the afternoon June 29 so that background reports can be prepared. The defendant was granted bail in the meantime on condition that he continues to live and sleep each night at his current address.
