The Queen's Baton Relay is set to grace various parts of Cumbria ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The ceremonial opener will pass through Carlisle on July 16, before heading through onto the Lake District and travelling onto Blackpool, Preston, Blackburn, Darwen, and Bolton.

Kicking off on June 2, the Baton will spend five days in London, coinciding with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Weekend - following the five day period, the ceremony will then resume its international journey, visiting the Falkland Islands, Jersey before visiting Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland.

More than 180 communities in England will experience the Queen’s Baton on a route spanning 2,500 miles over the 29 day period.

The official tour of the 72 countries of the commonwealth saw the baton beginning it's international journey in Cyprus, in October 2021, stopping at spots including Jamaica and India along the way.

Once the baton has travelled the length and breadth of England, the global journey will conclude at the Birmingham 2022 Opening Ceremony where the final Batonbearer will return the Baton to Her Majesty The Queen, at Birmingham's Aston Hall on July 28.

It will have taken 294 days by that point, with thousands of Batonbearers  taking turns along the journey – between 40 and 130 each day of the route in England alone.

Towns and communities are being encouraged to come out and support as the baton passes through the country.
