A COURT hearing is to decide whether a Barrow man must give up £7,620 which has been seized by Cumbria Police.
During a short hearing before Carlisle’s Rickergate Magistrates’ Court, Cumbria Police were given permission to continue holding the money, which was seized under Proceeds of Crime legislation.
Michael Fury, 36, of Croslands Park Road, Barrow, was entitled to oppose the application but failed to turn up for the hearing. The case was transferred to Barrow Magistrates for a hearing on June 28.
A final decision is likely to be made on what happens to the money on that day. The defendant is entitled to put his arguments for why the money should be returned to him.
