ALLERDALE has lots on offer for all the family, from rainy days to heatwaves -we have picked our top ten things to do this weekend in the beautiful borough we call home.

1) Lake District Coast Aquarium,Maryport

Open all year, 7 days a week the popular Aquarium at Maryport provides fun for all of the family. From crazy golf, to having the chance to walk over the attractions shark tank the aquarium can provides boat loads of fun.

2) Cycle up the Solway Coast

 Fancy a bit of gentle excercise while taking in some stunning views? The off-road cycle path up the coast from Maryport to Allonby is great fun on a sunny day, you can even stop off at the famous Twentyman's Ice cream shop for a bit of rest and some tasty refreshments.

3) Lake District Distillery, Bassenthwaite

This distillery is home to the Lake District first whisky, produced on the premises.You can even take a tour of the site where they make all of their wonderful tipples.

4) Honister, Keswick

The working slate mine has a high-adrenalin experience which will take those with a head for heights on an historic via ferrata. Visitors can also explore the mines and climb in their caverns.

5)Lake District Wildlife Park, Bassenthwaite

With more than 100 amazing animals in 24 acres of parkland in a gorgeous Allerdale location. You can get up close with the furry, scaly and feathered residents or even try a keeper experience for a day of fun.

6) Lakes Escapes, Escape Rooms, Workington

Lakes Escapes is Cumbria’s premier LIVE escape room based in Workington.  Groups of between 2 to 6 people have to complete the game room objective with 60 minutes. 

7)Helena Thompson Museum, Workington

The museum has collections of 18th and 19th century local history given to the community by a former resident, Miss Helena Thompson, and it’s run by a charity, the Workington Heritage Group.

8)Motorcycle Museum, Silloth

Packed with memorabilia the museum is a must-visit for all motor-racing enthusiasts- and even better it's completely free to enter!

9)Derwent Pencil Museum, Keswick

This quirky attraction has fans all over the world- and gives visitors the chance to seen an eight metre long pencil !

10)Wordsworth House, Cockermouth

Home of world famous poet William Wordsworth the museum gives people the chance to see the childhood home of one of the greatest englishmen.
