Workington Reds have parted company with manager Chris Willcock.

The Borough Park club have today announced they will not be renewing his contract.

The decision follows Reds' failure to clinch promotion from NPL West.

Reds missed out in the play-offs to Marine after spending most of the season in the title race.

And now the west Cumbrians are seeking a new boss in the hope they can go one better in 2022/23.

Former Ramsbottom manager Willcock was appointed last July after Danny Grainger's departure to Falkirk.

Reds today said their decision was taken "after a disappointing end to an otherwise successful season".

In a statement, the club added: "This was a difficult decision as the club narrowly missed out on automatic promotion as league champions and promotion via the play-offs.

"However, we believe a change in direction will give us the best chance of reaching this target next season.

"The board would like to thank Chris and his family for their hard work and commitment over the past ten months and wish them every success in his next football venture."

Reds say the search for a new manager is under way "immediately" and they hope to make an appointment in good time before the start of next season.
