A NORTH Cumbrian woman has been given a ban for drink driving.

Sharyn Smith, 46, committed the offence on March 25 as she drove a BMW 420D on Warwick Road in Carlisle, the city’s Rickergate court heard. At the time, she had 63mcg of alcohol in 100mls of breath.

The legal limit for driving is 35mcg.

After they heard an outline of the case, magistrates imposed the 14-month ban and fined her £120, with £85 costs and a £34 victim surcharge. The defendant, of High Crosby, was offered the drink driver rehabilitation course.

If she completes this successfully by a deadline it will reduce her ban by 14 weeks. Smith was represented by defence lawyer Chris Toms.
