A WHITEHAVEN woman found drunk and passed out in somebody’s garden has admitted that her behaviour put her in breach of a court order.

Magistrates heard that it was the fourth time Cheryl Marie Bragg, 53, had flouted the order, which specifically prohibits her from being drunk in any public place.

At Carlisle’s Rickergate court, the defendant, of Windermere Road, Whitehaven, who had been kept in custody since her arrest, admitted being in breach of her order, which was put in place by Workington magistrates on January 18.

Prosecutor Nicole Bridgman said police found the defendant "passed out" in a garden in Whitehaven on April 27. The lawyer said she was currently awaiting sentence for other matters and so this breach should sentenced along with the others. She committed an almost identical offence in Chapel Street, Whitehaven, on April 15.

Defence lawyer Anthony Wilson said there was clearly an alcohol issue, compounded by a background of Brag suffering mistreatment. The defendant said she had recently been “in and out of hospital” following a road traffic accident.

“She tells me she has re-engaged with Unity [the drug and alcohol service],” said Mr Wilson. Magistrates warned that custody is a possible for Bragg  but they agreed to grant her conditional bail.

She will be sentenced at Workington Magistrates’ Court on May 10. In the meantime, she must continue to live and sleep at her current Windermere Road home in Whitehaven.
